Can You Survive These?
The survival film genre is one that has been slowly gaining momentum over the past few years, with films showcasing survival against all odds and a testament to the power of human endurance. This particular genre is often a combination of other categories of films such as adventure and war, that usually revolves around the sole protagonist isolated from civilization who must fight with both his surroundings and his mind in order to triumph. Survival films bring you face to face with the wilderness, in the worst of circumstances where one must rely on instincts in order to survive.
These films inspire us to live, to keep going no matter how hopeless the situation seems, and that’s exactly why we love them. Here is our list of some of the best survival films currently streaming on Netflix, that you can stream right from your homes at G Residen, Pantai Hillpark and Seni Mont Kiara. On a side note, all of these properties are available in Edgeprop.
Cast Away (2000)
IMDb rating: 7.8/10
This 2000 classic won Tom Hanks a Golden Globe for his performance as FedEx employee Chuck Noland who finds himself stranded on a deserted island after his plane crashes in the Pacific Ocean. The film’s central focus is the island, where Noland,a time-obsessed systems analyst finds himself in a place devoid of the concept of the time.
Most of us cannot even imagine leaving the comfort of our beds at G Residence KL, Seni Mont Kiara for sale, and Pantai Hillpark Bangsar sale for too long, but Noland spends a total of four years on the island with a volleyball whom he names Wilson, as his sole companion. This film is thus a true testament to the human spirit, as Noland learns to survive without all the luxuries such as electricity, entertainment and even a friend.
The Revenant (2015)
IMDb rating: 8/10
The film that won Leonardo DiCaprio his much awaited and much deserved Oscar for Best Actor is “the Revenant.” It is based on real life American hunter Hugh Glass who was left for dead by his companions after being attacked by a grizzly bear in 1823. The attack leaves Glass in a fatal state, with a broken leg, punctured organs and gaping wounds, yet his condition is not the only thing he survives.
His two companions desert him, while the other even murders his own son before his eyes. This film is another ode to human perseverance, as Glass survives the extreme freezing weather, near-fatal injuries and infections, being shot at, fear of the unknown, the death of his son and betrayal. Not to mention all of this actually happened.
Into the Wild (2007)
IMDb rating: 8.1/10
Not everyone might relate to this film, but we can guarantee that it’s a favourite amongst campers and hikers. While many of us cannot even imagine voluntarily leaving our comfortable homes at Seni Mont Kiara Kuala Lumpur, and buy Pantai Hillpark property, “Into the Wild” tells the true story of Chris McCandless, a young college graduate, top student and athlete who leaves all his material possessions behind and donates his money in order to hike into the Alaskan wilderness.
Over the course of the film, he encounters several characters who help McCandless discover the meaning of life. Although the ending is somber, the film shows viewers a different perspective on the world as we know it, and why humans are not meant to conquer nature, but simply survive it.
